Front Plate

Might have been talked about already, but I can't find the thread so I'll just bring it up again.

Here in NJ we are required to have the front license plate on vehicles. I can't seem to bring myself to drill holes into the bumper where the plate should go. Has anybody put any thought or research into what those of us in states that require the front plate can do? Sorry I'm not really any help in this area, I drive em, I can't fix em...

We need front plates here in Ca. but I haven't had a problem in not running one on my '70 Challengers. I run them on my other cars, because they have contoured bumpers for them and would look silly without a plate there. I'm not putting the factory front license bracket on the new Challenger that I will get. I think it just messes up the look. It would be a good inner city bumper protector though. I'm going to try to shove the license plate into the area just below the bumper. It might affect cooling in hot climates, but here in S.F. it is not too hot. I really hope I can get the Dealer to not install the front license plate bracket onto the car when they are doing the Prep. I guess I might have to write that into the contract when I order the car. "Front license plate bracket installed, you keep it, no front license plate bracket installed, and less than three miles on the odometer, I buy it."

fortunately the day my sales guy called to say that my car would be in he said that he'd tell the guys in the back not to install the front plate bracket. a reccessed bumper would have worked, it just looks so much better without one on it though.

I was an Illinois resident for 30+ years and refused to put a front plate on any of my vehicles because the plate frame and plate detracted from the vehicles' front end appearance. I had a couple of state troopers comment on the missing plate and plate frame on two occassions during that period; neither wrote me for it....I think they saw why I didn't mount the plates. I live in Indiana now; no front plates here!!! I don't know how NY treats a missing front plate if you have proper registration, a rear plate and a proper driver's license.

I've instructed my dealership not to drill an holes on it, and the salesman said they aren't supposed to and wrote it on my order. I'll slap it up in the front window if I have to, but I'm not screwing with the car's look for a stupid plate.

Here in ny at least my area, they pounce on things like that and I think it comes down to the kids and their ricemobiles causing trouble.

Same here (NJ also). I had a note attached to my order printout and told the salesman to NOT have the license plate bracket mounted to the front bumper. I told him that a lot of sports car owners dont like it because it detracts from the looks of the car, especially if they are going to enter into shows. He said that he understood and would make sure it's not mounted. I'll still be sure to remind him when my car arrives though
Funny thing is, when I ordered my car, they already had two Challengers on the lot and both had the bracket mounted (just like the rest of the vehicles). They had gotten a new R/T in last week and have not mounted the bracket to it......maybe they see my reasoning now????

I am close to a solid answer !!!

I used to have a"top flight" bracket for my 06 vette, I picked up my Challenger friday and went by a friends today and had him hold his top flight bracket up on my lower bumper and it looks like a good fit. I am picking up a bracket this week and will post pics. The area where it would stick on would be under the bumperand it looked OK, the best part of the bracket is that you 3m an angle brace to plastic under bumper and the plate is removable !!!I think I will need to mod either the bracket or dremel out about one inch of 3 "fins" in the plastic under there. I will know as soon as I have bracket in hand and put car on the lift so I can see the area better. I will post a " how to " if all goes well and I know a vendor who sells the bracket. Stay Tuned !! Oh and I am soked to have the car, I got an SE which is tough coming from a 500+ HP Corvette, but I am loving the car , very comfortable , smooth ride and the 6 gets Very Nice gas mileage

Thank you, and congrats on the challenger, its a great ride. Even with the 5.7 I'm getting better mileage than the 98 Blazer 6cyl I got rid of.

Yeah, I do have cyclinder envy when I see an RT or SRT, buy I am thrilled to be in the car , and I made lemonade on this move, I needed to lower my monthly payments on everything,... I had a sick Vette, its been in a magazine a few times but I had to do something quick and I feel like I made out on the deal , I traded in the vette and got a car I wanted and cut my payment in half I am a major car buff and this car is awesome, I love to park it and when I walk away I need to look back and still cant believe I have the car I will hopefully have some preliminary info and photos this weekend.
