Starter button Keyless Go

This may be a redundant post but I wanted to post it anyway in case someone else was thinking of doing the same thing that I just tried. My 2009 R/T was not equipped with Keyless Go from the factory but I like the push button starter. I decided to order the starter push button to see if it would work on my car as it was only $16 bucks. Well, it snaps right in to the socket for the key fob but it doesn''t do anything on my car. It was worth a shot as I am only out $16.

The Keyless Go has a special keyfob that transmits a signal to the engine on a special frequency. That keyfob must be inside the car for the On/Off button to work. Your "key" has an electronic code also, but must be inserted into the ignition receptacle in the car to operate the starter and allow the engine to run. Two different technologies that just aren't compatible....

I would imagine that you could order a new WIN module and 2 new keys, I assume the option has to be turned on using the StarScan, but that shouldnt be a big deal.

I was at the dealership while they prepped my R/T today (just came in this afternoon) and I watched the "installation" of my Keyless Go system. It consisted of opening the glove box, removing the components (the keyless go button and a cover for the end of the keyfob) and snapping the button in place and the end of the keyfob in place. That was it; it was converted to keyless go (an option I purchased on the vehicle). There may be a programming step that was performed at the factory to enable it, but you may want to check with your dealer to see if they can help you.

I contacted the dealership where we purchased our R/T Challenger wanting to have Keyless Go installed as it was not an original option. I was told unless that option was installed at the factory when the car was build, it cannot be purchased and installed later. Can anyone confirm this?!

The hardware isn't there. I read on another forum that there are a few other parts needed to add keyless go.
