HALLELUJAH BROTHER!! Dodge Rumble Returns

Challenger a "GO"!!!!

Source: DC Media and thefirehouse.biz

Well...that was fast--just six months from the unveiling of the Dodge Challenger concept car to the announcement today by Chrysler Group President and CEO Tom LaSorda and Chrysler Group Chief Operating Officer Eric Ridenour that the muscle car will go into production.

LaSorda said the words hundreds of thousands of enthusiasts around the world have been waiting for during a press event Saturday (7/1/06) across the street from the famed Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida hours before the running of the Pepsi 400 NASCAR race.

The new Dodge Challenger will debut as a 2008 model in calendar year '08.

"We haven't seen this kind of spontaneous, passionate response to a car since we unveiled the Dodge Viper concept in 1989," LaSorda said, "But it's easy to see what people like about he Dodge Challenger. It's bold, powerful and capable. It's a modern take on one of the most iconic muscle cars and sets a new standard for pure pony car."

And this will be the down fall.........

Merkle said he expects that the Challenger will only be offered with a V-8 engine, unlike the Mustang, which comes with both a V-6 and a V-8 option. He believes Dodge will sell about 30,000 to 35,000 Challengers beginning in late 2008.

I don't really care if it only comes with a v8, that would be the only way to buy it anyway!

Well, it looks like the only way we're ever going to see an affordable chally is if the production line is as flexible as DCX thinks it is, and they see the demand, and they see Charger sales drop, and the flying spaghetti monster comes down and slaps Deiter around with his noodly appendage to knock some sense into him. This is NOT Europe. We like our cars large, our engines larger and our steering non-existant damnit!

You are so right!! I would rather that DCX not built the challenger if there not going to make it a mustang fighter. If they only build 30-40K a year it will be 3-4 years away before the avarge joes can buy one.
