R/T Exhaust
Hello all, last week I purchased a 09 Red Challenger R/T (Auto) - what a blast! I used to drive an 05 GTO around, which was more powerful, but doesn't hold a candle to the enjoyment I get out of driving the Chally.
Anyways, it sounds to weak for a V8 muscle car, in stock form. I am looking to give it a classy note, without spending hundreds of dollars on a cat-back, I am not looking to squeeze out every last HP from mandrel bent pipes, etc. I got underneath the vehicle, and it looks like it has the "suitcase" muffler the Charger guys always talk about. Has anybody tried anything with this, or does anybody have any recommendations. Like I said before, I came from the GM LS world, so I have little exerience in identifying whats good or not. I have never been a big proponent of Flowmaster, but do they sound decent in my application? Also, something else to consider is the MDS. I don't want it to sound silly when it kicks down to 4 cylinder mode. Thanks for any suggestions! Todd

My suggestion is to wait a little more for a greater variety of choices to surface.
Most of the R/T owners I know like Magnaflow and Zoomers. I had a 3" custom mandrel bent "x-pipe-back exhaust" with Thrush mufflers and no resonators for $500. I purchased a 3" JBA x-pipe. Beware of the MDS. The more aggressive the exhaust, the more annoying the drone of the MDS (to you and your passengers).

Mopar Terry,
your way seems to be the way to go. Of all the sound files I have listened to, they, especailly the Zoomers are waaaay to raspy with that trumpeting sound. I am old school and want a deep rumble as opposed to a exhaust note that is akin to a low rider 64' Impala with a 1 inch exhaust... |

I would avoid the Flowmaster. My son has a modified F150 with Flowmaster exhaust. It sounds more like an import tuner than Detroit Iron..... My R/T is due in during the next several days; I've opted for the MagnaFlow Cat-Back system. Check out the MagnaFlow website; they have video and sound on an '08 5.7 MDS Charger.....similar sound to the '09. I think you'll like it...

Congrats on the new Challenger man!
I haven't heard them in person but I do hear a lotta complaints about the MDS and it sounding like a lawn mower in the trunk. Corsa claims there system is be best for this. I know the Corsa catbacks are a lotta $$ but you could get the Corsa mufflers. Here's a link: CorsaDbMufflerSeries I have a Magnaflow X-pipe muffler and I do think it would be great also. My experience has taught me that the X-pipe muffler cancels drone. I also have a lotta power from this setup. |

Are you a fan of the Corsa exhaust vs. the MagnaFlow? Is the Corsa statement about eliminating drone inside the vehicle true? I would appreciate any advice you can offer. I don't want an exhaust that is obnoxiously loud (like alot of the kids in their Cobras)...nothing you can hear from blocks away....but something a bit throaty that adds some rwhp....
Your thoughts? And if you would recommend Corsa over MagnaFlow, how much would the Corsa system run...Parts $ and Install $ ???

I agree...
the 5.7L automatic needs a little more rumble and chumble

I did a LOT of research on this, watched and listened to a LOT of you-tube videos, and i have to say- ZOOMERS are the way to go. Of course its my opinion, but do a search on you tube using "XXXXX 5.7 dodge" Where XXX is the name of the exhaust you want to hear. You can further add challenger in there, but that's mostly SRT-8's. I was listening to the chargers. There is a BIG difference!
