Well I asked a sales manager about the ad and he did say that you had to put a lot down to get 0%. Like the more you put on your down payment the more you pay down your interest rate. Kinda useless if you are getting 0% on such a small amount. Price also went up about $500 or so, they said Chrysler had marked them as restricted since that's all anyone is ordering. Cars.com's pricing matched theirs, though Dodge's website doesn't. Not that big a difference anyway.

They came back down on the trade-in so I'm not really gaining anything there, so it does look like it would be $550+ a month. A little more than I'm able to do right now I think....Well, I'm sure I could afford it, it would just make things tight for a bit. I know in about 4 months I'll have about $350+ of extra income each month.
I'll have to do some financial figuring and determine if I am willing to pay that extra now or wait until the Spring. Waiting would give me time to see what the Camaro pricing is. Though I prefer the Challenger, I am elligible for the GM discount, so that's something I have to take into consideration.

Decisions, decisions. Hopefully I can figure it out by Monday.

If you are ordering a Challenger, it will take some time for them to build it. Mine took 14 weeks from order to build and it is still sitting in the holding pen waiting for a train....so if your income is going up in 3 months, you may want to order now; payments don't start until you take delivery...

They also told me they could defer the start of my payments 90 days. He did mention modifying one of the ones being built next week instead of ordering from scratch so I didn't have to wait so long.

How does he know that the vehicle is scheduled to be built next week? When they go to D1, they're ready to go, but typically they can be in D1 for 3 weeks or more. Also, how do they modify an order that is scheduled; when it's modified, I believe that it may have to be re-scheduled???

It's possible they have one thats in C status right now, so you can still change the order. Only when it goes D is when you can't change it. It still doesn't mean it will go to production, it can be any status for weeks. I think most of know this from what is happening. Some dealer do have more pull then others though.

Well, thanks to someone on the boards it looks like I'll be approved at 4.75% for financing, not through the dealership. Now I can focus on price and trade-in separately and get away from that whole monthly payment crap.

Is there a way to tell which dealerships have the best allocation? Are the 5-star ones generally the better ones, or does that have nothing to do with it? I know the one by my house I've been working with is a 5-star dealership, and they've had (as far as I could see anyway, they have lots of cars around back I haven't looked at) 3 on the lot the last couple of weeks. The other dealership I went to last weekend had maybe 8 or 9 all lined up, but they were all SEs.

You can check on-line to see what inventory each dealer has. But, typically, the 5star dealers are the top selling and highest customer satisfaction dealers. There's no substitute for surfing the net and visiting the various dealers if you're looking to buy one off the lot. If you are going to order and just want the best price, visit each dealer you are considering..armed with the build sheets and pricing from Dodge.com ... and work them. They need to move units now; they are all hungry with the current financial situation. Good luck and let us know how it turns out for you.

Well, sadly the financing fell through. They only wanted to go up to about $30k and the one I'd be ordering is $35k. Sadly my wife doesn't have much of a credit history so adding her to the loan made no change. They're more conservative than most places I guess, which I can respect.

On the upside I mentioned to the dealer tonight that I thought I had secured financing at that rate and he said they could match that. I'm supposed to go in there again tonight. I don't think I'll mention about the other place falling through. But with a % quoted by the dealer I can still work on the price and trade-in value, and if all goes well, this time tomorrow I'll have a Challenger on the way.
