Ordering questions.
I'm going to the dealership tomorrow and might be making an order on a R/T. I've been to two dealerships so far, one of which is the one I'm going back to tomorrow. I have been trying to do work ups online of what options I want and I have a couple of questions.
I want the Electronics Conv. Package, the MyGig Nav., and at least the 6 speaker setup. Now when I go to edmunds.com to build it lets me add whatever options I want and spits ot the price. But if I go to Dodge it won't let me add some of the options without doing the J package. Is is absolutely necessary to get the J package to get all those other options? I don't really want to spend the extra $$ for all that (though I would love leather seats). When I went to the dealerships with what options I wanted, neither mentioned having to order the J package or anything like that. Also, in my previous car buying experiences I've always negotiated on the price, but while checking out the Challenger the dealerships seem to be negotiating on monthly payments. Is that normal? The one (5-star) I'm going to tomorrow was talking about $400 a month for 72 months for most of the options I mentioned before, which if they can deliver that I'll definitely be buying. The other dealership was around $560 We'll see if they change their tune though. |

Don't get suckered into the monthly payment BS game. It is just a way for the stealer to jack up your purchase price without you realizing it. For example assuming you were talking about a 5 year loan at 7.0% interest, each $1,000 you borrow will cost you $19.80. So the difference between a $450 payment and a $550 payment means you have just jacked up the purchase price by $5,050. For a 72 month loan like you are talking about, it's only $17.05 per thousand borrowed, so a hundred dollars a month jacks the purchase price by $5,870.
Force them to quote you all the costs EXACTLY, including the specific loan percentage, exact number of months (sometime they try to tack on an additional 6 months of payments and hope you don't notice), and all closing costs they are trying to bury in the loan - such as loan points. ![]() Good luck. Don't pay over sticker in this market.... Last edited by moparrob : 10-11-2008 at 01:07 AM. |

Well, they did have a piece of paper with the total price on it and initially had like $625 on there for the payments. The guy went down to $500, and then asked about $400 a month. I stalled because I really wasn't sure I wanted a new car NOW. He got his sales manager and if I understood him correctly he was saying that they pretty much had to sell them at MSRP and couldn't go lower and they would cheat up on what they gave me for my trade in to get it to a more workable price. Right now if I could get everything I want at $450 a month for 72 months with taxes/title included I'd go for it. Also, is the metallic accent around the stereo and shifter only available on the SE? That's the only model I've seen it on, and I quite liked it better than the all black of the R/Ts I've seen. Last edited by ChldsPlay : 10-11-2008 at 01:28 AM. |

To answer your first post, You need to use the Dodge site the option your car. The Electronic Convience package is only available with the 27J. I am getting a 27F package car, with sound group which includes AM/FM/CD/DVD player and 276 watt amp.
To answer your second post, MSRP is what Chrysler wants for the vehicle, the dealer pays an invoice for it, say the MSRP is 33530, invoice would be around 31090. You can always bargain, start at 500 over and work from there. Don't let them tell you that you can get into this car for 400 dollars, its BS. Of course, if you got 10000 dollars to put down, then maybe its possible. I can tell ya the other dealership that wanted 560 is probably more correct. Figure 33,530 + 10%down(3350) with 11% interest for 72 months would be 575.00 a month, for every thousand down, it brings the payment down 20 dollars. |

$450 a month for 72 months (assuming a 7% loan rate) means you are financing $26,394.50. Add to this any cash you are putting in the deal, plus the value of your trade-in, and you will know exactly what your 'out the door' price really is.

Well, I certainly hope I'll be getting less than 7% as I have excellent credit (score of 767 last I checked). And from what we were talking before I believe my trade-in might get me about $4,000 off after what I still owe is taken care of. That leaves a little wiggle room to for them to go below MSRP + whatever I put down. The $450 isn't the highest I'll go, but for TODAY it is a price point that I would 100% go for right now. Any info on that interior accent? Just an SE thing? Yes/No/Maybe? Also anyway to delete the spoiler? Seems to me the better the trim, the worse the spoiler option. |

There is noway of deleting the spoiler. The interior package that SE have, don't come in the R/T's. You can add these yourself I believe, just need to purchase the parts from Dodge.

Actually you can spec your car here, its gives ya invoice pricing as well. Don't know if Edmunds does that. Also you can only choose the correct options as well. Like if ya try to pick the EVIC with the 27f package, it will automatically change it the the 27J package.

As far as the dealer's approach to pricing. They like to emphasize an affordable payment. You want that but you also want to know how much interest you are paying and for how long; after all, it's your money. So, the dealer offering the $400/mo payment may be quoting 9% interest over 6 years while the $560/mo could be a better deal...perhaps 5 years at 7%. But it has to be affordable. Just be sure to look at the interest rate and the charges that they apply to the loan. The cost of the loan is based on sales price, down payment, interest rate and length of loan. So each of those components effect the monthly payment. Talk about each of those components with the salesperson and with the Financing (F&I) Manager at the dealership (you will meet the F&I Mgr; they are involved in every financed deal). They have to give you a disclosure statement to sign. Read, Question, and if you are happy, Sign and Drive !!!!! Enjoy your new Challenger R/T !!! ![]()

Another thing I should mention about this dealership is that they have had an ad in the paper that states clearly that 0% financing is available for the Challenger (and lots of other vehicles). When I asked them about it they said it was a misprint, which I could understand. The ad, however, has now run 3 weeks in a row, I have the paper from 3 consecutive Fridays. If something like that is really a misprint, why continue to run it for 3 weeks?

Sounds like a complete crock of .... If their ad runs 3 weeks in a row and clearly states that they have 0% financing on the Challenger, they need to provide you with that 0% financing. The question is: What are the requirements for the 0% financing??? eg: Must order and take delivery before XX/XX/XX date. If you have to order and take delivery before a certain date, the Challenger may be excluded just because of long delivery delays. May have to have X% down eg: 20% or 25% down to qualify. May have to buy a car off of the lot to qualify (with the tough financial situation our country is in right now, they are highly motivated to sell inventory off the lot vs. an order). So....look into their * footnoted requirements and see if you do or don't qualify..... Good luck with the process.
We're all cheering for you!! ![]()
