Are dealerships struggling to sell the Challenger?

Just wondering this since the local dealership has had an Black R/T sitting on the lot for over a month now. They have it out front and I drive by it everyday. It's the one I actually took for a test drive. It doesn't look like it's moved at all in the last week. All the other dealerships in the area seem to have most of the ones they started with as well and they seem to be getting more desperate to sell.

I know there are lots of people who have them ordered, but it doesn't seem like many people are buying them on the lots. Is everyone who is interested just doing custom orders?

I settled at $1,000 under MSRP when I made my order, but have seen lots of people since then get much better deals, some even below invoice. Because of this I threw out an offer at another dealership for invoice to see if they'd bite. They nibbled and I sent another email to see if I can start luring them in. I'd hate to cancel on the other dealership after reaching an agreement, but at $1,600 difference it doesn't hurt to haggle some more, even if it's just to get the dealer I ordered from to drop their price.

$1000 under msrp is not bad at all. I have one on order for msrp and the more I read about the good deals everyone is getting now the more I'm thinking of checking for a better price.
A local dealer where I ordered my R/T has an 08 SRT ($7K over sticker) and an 09 SE, but had just gotten an 09 R/T a few days ago too. The 08 was the only Challenger they had gotten originally and still have it. and the SE they had gotten in August.......so they aren't moving at all around here.

The dealerships in my area keep getting RTs in that have every option available then adding their "protection package" BS. There's a white RT that I've gone and looked at that is $38,995 on the factory sticker and $40,195 on the dealership addendum. Sitting right next to that car is a black SRT that's only $45,195. It's like they don't get the point of the RT, to be the "reasonably priced" alternative for those of us who aren't quite ballin' enough to plunk down 45k on a car. Maybe if I was single and didn't have kids, but that's out of my reach. I'll probably order mine this spring, or find one on the net that I can get with only the options I want and is more in the $34k range. That's why I think that they are sitting on the lots.

Just go buy the one off the lot that you can get the best deal on NOW.

As soon as you complete the purchase cancel your "order," which is not even scheduled to be built yet.

Wow, the dealer I'm going through "Welton Motor" agreed to order mine at $500.00 over invoice when Dodge decides to get them off the restricted list, which they figure around Dec/Jan. I'd love to take one for a test drive but they don't have enough R/T's around to let people test drive them, soon as they come in their gone.

What do you mean "restricted list"? I didn't know there was any restrictions.

My local dealer in St. Louis, MO seems to be selling them but slowly.

The problem is they think that they are going to cut a fat hog on everyone the sell around here so it's sticker or see ya. Supply and demand will catch up and prices will come down and then I think they will sell faster.

I'm thinking that they've built as many as they could for this period. Okey, this is word for word on the invoice they printed out for me. "The base price and the shipping have increased. Also the vehicle is in restriction (order bank full)."

Well, I think they are a bit desperate especially now. That other dealership I contacted bit pretty hard. They offered me a R/T that has everything I want (except for the light gray insert) is the same color, and has the additional options of: Sunroof, 20" wheels, stripes, and headlamps. Sticker is $38,145 (would be higher but it was pre restriction prices). Invoice is about $35,200. They offered me the car at $34,500, the same as what I had on the car I ordered. I could pick up the car tomorrow if I want.

I don't really care for those extra options though(and really want the light gray), so I called the sales manager at the dealership I have my order at and I will be going in tomorrow to "discuss what they can do to make the numbers work for me."

So, they went down below invoice pretty quickly, and hopefully the other dealership will follow suit and I'll be getting my R/T for under $32,500. Might see if they can throw in an extended warranty too.

Thanks Jak and Dodgeboy90501.

I am close to selling my truck and ordering my base R/T F package. So, is that not on the restricted list?

also, there's not much of a price gap between sticker and invoice...truthfully, only about $1300. while this sounds like garbage, i also heard that from Terry Delong (former owner of Proglass...some might know that name) when we were discussing the idea of a shaker hood for the V6. plus, there's ZERO incentives or rebates on any model Challenger, so with a failing economy, the GM potential destruction of Chrysler and gas prices...it's hard to get approved for a loan to buy a loaf of bread these days....

my price is basically locked in....i work for Advance Auto Parts, and we have a deal set up to get any Chrysler vehicle for 1% BELOW invoice....not bad...saves me a couple hundred bucks. besides, i'm not a haggler...i used to sell cars...so i don't beat the hell out of my salesman. all i asked for is if he can throw in the chrome fuel door....that's one doohickey i like
