As mentioned in my newbie post, I'm the proud owner of a four-day-old B5 Blue SRT8 (OK, it was manufactured months ago, but it's been in my driveway for almost 4 days). While I was filling out the 1.9% financing on my favorite new ride, my fiancee said, "Watch, as soon as we get it home, Chrysler will announce a newer, better version." Y'see, I have this tendency to wait years for a purchase, then bite the bullet only to find out that within weeks or months, the vendor is coming out with a new, better, cooler version of the same thing, usually for less money.
My completely impartial question to all new 2010 Dodge Challenger SRT8 owners is: Now that it's sorta, kinda "confirmed" that there's a new 6.4L, 500HP SRT8 motor coming out in 2011, do you have the least bit of buyers remorse? If you had to do it all over again, would you hold off for 12-18 months to be the first to get the newer, possibly faster, possibly more fuel efficient (via MDS) engine? Or do you enjoy terrorizing the main streets and back roads of your town too much to defer piloting your 6.1L SRT8 for that long? I'm just curious what the general consensus is. I'm on the fence, and a bit numb to it, since it's happened to me four times in the last six months. - Dave |

Heres my story. I sold my magnum srt8 in Dec 09 and planned to wait 12 to 18 months to see what actually came out 6.4 l , lime green etc. but a good deal came along and I jumped.I hope to not have too many regrets but our cars are a low 13 sec car that tops out at 170 plus mph. Really how much more do you need?I dont street race so the 6.1 is plenty and as stated plenty of times the challenger DOES get by with its better looks.

I have been holding out for the plum crazy or sassy grass green Srt8 6 speed. When the purple came out I was ready to pull the trigger ,cause I love the purple with white side stripes to break up the quarter a little. I HATE the SRT stripes -LOVE the Classic stripes. But with 1.9% finance rate I don't want to loss out.
But with the impending 6.4 and maybe green I think I'M GOING TO GAMBLE and see. |

Thanks for the replies guys. I actually thought this would be a hot topic and was hoping to spark some healthy debate.
I agree with your POV, Greg. There is a certain point when more HP is just a number. Once I get past 500 miles on my B5 Beauty, I'm sure it'll have enough HP and torque to put a grin on my face every time. Sassy Green? I hadn't heard of that one coming down the pike. Sweet (to quote a HEMI commercial)! Yeah, that 1.9% financing for 60 months and $2000 of Mopar Bucks is very enticing. I was going to pay cash for mine, but the salesman convinced me that I could probably make my $45K make more than the ~2% financing charge by investing it somewhere else. Now that the Dow's over 11,000, maybe he's right. ![]() - Dave Last edited by ViperGeek; 04-29-2010 at 01:13 PM. Reason: typo |

So how much truth is there about the 6.4 I'm hours away from pulling the trigger on a 10 srt and most likley still will even with the news. I have waited been on the fence for over a year and a half. 1.9% and 2gs is dam nice. But on the other hand 500hp would be nice. I have gotten the dealer to go way below the invoive price also and they will be asking MSRP plus plus I would say for the new ones better buy now enjoy wait a year or two and get a better deal on the 6.4 if they even do come out with it I guess?????????

My hope for the unconfirmed 6.4L motor is more torque earlier in the RPM range. Driving between 4800 RPM (peak torque) and 6200 RPM (peak HP) is fun for a while, but I'm typically cruising in the 1500-2500 RPM range and would appreciate more grunt down low. - Dave |

I would like to have a 6.4 SRT (assuming it is affordable), but I am more than happy with my 2009 6.1. Unless you are racing at the track, 425 hp is more than enough power for the street. I am still trying to figure out where I can use its 173 top speed.

The Texas panhandle would work. Out there you can look further and see less than anywhere else in the world.

The latest rumor is that the 2011 6.4 Hemi will have 450 hp. (flywheel). I cranked this number, and others, into an on-line calculator, using 4,400 lbs. (with driver). This is what I came up with:
375 hp= 13.9 sec. 400 hp= 13.6 425 hp= 13.3 450 hp= 13.13 500 hp= 12.67 If the 450 hp number is correct, SRTs with pick up .2 in the quarter. http://robrobinette.com/et.htm Last edited by SRT-Tom; 05-07-2010 at 06:40 AM. |
