Every car has a rev limiter, even automatics. Put the car in neutral and floor it, you'll hit it. Even my harley has a rev limiter, as do any other sport bike. Generally when you get a vehicle chipped, part of the programming is to shift the rev limiter 500rpms or so. And you want to shift way before you hit the rev limiter because you peak HP is before you hit that wall. As you get closer to that rev limit, you start loosing hp.

And for people talking about manuals as daily drivers, you just have to get used to it. I've had a manual dealing with Boston traffic. It gets annoying yes, but just get into work earlier to avoid the traffic. I just think they are so much more fun then an auto, and if you can get much better gas millage if you shift conservatively and not beat on it, but you can tear a$$ whenever you get that itch.

Most engines including the older (2008 and prior) 5.7 and the '09 and prior 6.1 have peak h.p. well before redline and nose off quickly at rpms above peak h.p. However......

With the new 3rd Gen 5.7 Hemi (2009), the H.P. continues to climb even at fuel shut-off. Peak h.p. is at 5800, redline on this mill. There's alot more power in those heads, so....if you get a chip, you may want to run to higher rpms in the '09 Challenger R/T.....as high as any mods may permit....

I agree, I love to shift my own gears. My 6 speed '09 R/T is coming soon.

I like manny also,
but it was get an auto R/T now
or wait.

I could not wait.

manny's are like rag tops.
fun as hell 10% of the time, but 90% of the time a hassle.

like in city traffic, on snowy icy hills, etc.

I hope my choice pans out.

will the autostick be fun enough that I wont resent the 10% of the time I will be dying for a manny. time will tell.

I thought that I had decided on which transmission I wanted....the auto stick...but now I'm second guessing myself about the 6 speed.
I remember reading somewhere that there are different exhaust systems for each transmission configuration, is that correct? If so, can anyone explain what the differences is between them?
thanks,
Mark (back on the fence)

I ordered a manual R/T. When I was deciding I looked into the differences between the auto and manual. Besides the differences in h.p. (375 vs. 370) and torque (396 vs. 404), I believe that the auto has a suitcase muffler in the mix and the manual has a pair of bottle resonators routed independently off of the pipes (no shared muffler for the dual exhaust). This is from reading the differences between the two in various magazines such as Mopar Action.... Can someone with an auto and someone with amanual R/T verify this?

For a street car I say manual but considering I have big plans for the car drag racing wise I'm going to go with an auto.

Manual gearbox all the way.....Automatics are for the mechanically challenged......Or them who drive in stop and go traffic and desire both legs to be the same size..

I am loving the manual more than I had anticipated. W/ ESP full offt I makes it even better. Wife does not mind the fact she cannot drive it. (Manually Challenged) The G's make her feel like she is on a ride at an amusement park.
