Auto or Manual???

Still on the fence about which tranny to order.
Wife CANNOT drive a stick. This is bad- I really do want the 6 spd. but what if the car needs to be moved when I am not around?
The 6spd. has an increased fun factor. I enjoyed the 4 spd. in my 69 Dart. Auto is easy and care free.... just dont know but gotta decide FAST.

This is a tough decision........

What are your Pro's and Cons????

Welcome and other than the FUN factor, I see no reason to get a manual. Now when the time comes for me to order I will get a six speed because it will not be my daily driver.

This is not to be a daily driver either. Wife has an '06 Impala I have 1997 GMC Sierra but I work out of a F-350 service truck that I also commute with. Should I lose my job and free ride to work, I'll use the Pick-up to get around.

Can anyone explain the features of the Auto?
I understand it can be manually shifted. Does each push forward shift up one and hold till you bump to another??

Yes unless you over rev the engine and it will shift for you then so spacey people don't ruin their engines because they are used to an auto car. Same thing with downshifting, it won't let you do it to early and it will downshift for you if the RPMs get too low.

Well, I ordered the 6 Speed Manual. I Offcially have my 2009 SRT-8 On order. No sunroof, all 4 tires the same size ( For rotating purposes) and added the My Gig system. There was a gauge option that I didn't understand- so I took it. Thiught the tack was std. Anyway - can't wait....

You could order 255's in the rear. I got 245's all around. I know I will have to rotate.

Keep in mind tire size isn't the only difference. It's Goodyear Eagle® RS-A all-season tires vs. Goodyear Eagle® F1 three-season tires. Entirely different set of tires. Most of the reviews said the F1 tires (tire upgrade option) made a significant difference in traction.

Personally, I'm getting the F1 three-seasons and getting a second set of winter tires/wheels for winter time here in Micihigan.

Get the 6 speed, then call around and try to find any rental with a manual trans (which will probably be difficult to do, but worthwhile). Rent the rental for a day and try teaching her to drive in it, that way it's not your Challenger taking the beat down of a new driver. Once she gets it down in any car she'll have the coordination to do it in anything else, and that way she can move the Challenger if need be.

The manual tranny in the Challengers will have a new feature called Hill Start Assist. Basically once the clutch is released the computer holds the brake for around 3 seconds or until engine torque is sensed and will release the brake so that a person will not roll backwards on those steep inclines. Just think of how this will be on the drag strip. You can have your foot off the brake and over the gas ready to punch it when the tree changes!!

Mine will be a auto when I get one. The 6 speed will be ALOT more fun but not for everyday driving.
