Spapstick was the shifter only ,there was a spring that held pressure to the locks in the shifter that allowed positive upshifts of the tranny without fear of "missing"a gear!

Push the button and pull back and get positive one at a time downshifts!

slapstick...purely machanical!

Autostick ... electronicly controlls shifting up and down by "activating "autostick mode .

push the lever to th right (i think) controlls upshifts, pull the lever to the right and you downshift!

Also being electronic the "brain" can shift to protect the trany if it over revs'

best of all it firms up the shifts considably.

Autostick ...electronics!
Dead on !! You can of course over ride "the brain", and choose your own time to shift by tuning with the predator, by disabling the over rev function.

But if it shifts at max (safe) rpm to protect the engine what would you gain from overriding the "brain"?

Nothing beats the machanical sound of a firm downshift on a warm summer night with a slapstick equiped car!

Click ,click, from the shifter ,chirp from the tires, and rpms up sounding from the pipes!

The "brain" in my 300C always shifted way too early on the upshift for my liking, and no-where near red line. The gain is the faster acceleration in the lower gear at higher rpm. I havn't had my Chally long enough too check it out,(I went offshore to work, one day after I got it) and see if it needs to be done, nor am I suggesting that it be done. I am merely pointing out that it can be done.

Even in autostick mode?

I havn't had the opportunity to try it yet. I literally had my car for a few hours, and had to go to work offshore for 3 weeks.
Oh well, I'm off Tuesday, and get home Wed.

I drove a Challenger SE which arrived at my local dealer last week as an inventory vehicle. The SE that I drove did not have autostick, but rather a standard 4 speed automatic.....I don't know whether or not autostick is an option for the SE???? but the one I drove didn't have it.

I'm hoping, once they see the popularity of this vehicle and the fact they can't keep it on the lot. Chysler will get request for manuals in the v-6. If there is enough of a demand for it, then they know they can sell it! Maybe 2009 1/2 or 2010??? We can only hope!
